Last night the United States of America voted and elected the first African American president to lead our country. It was an astonishing defeat over John McCain, the Republican. All over the world, people were celebrating this huge break in the racial barrier. Change is coming. It's so amazing to me that people, regardless of their race, have elected a black man to be President of the United States. It goes beyond anything that I've ever experienced before in the world of politics. I can't begin to imagine what it feels like to be a black person in today's society to know that the racial barriers have been broken.
Obama might not be the best candidate for the job, but he's being given a chance to prove it. And he's got four years to do so. And if America is not happy with the job that he is doing, then we have the right and the power to vote him out of office and vote in someone more capable.
His speech was amazing last night. He said that for those people "whose support he has yet to earn, I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your president, too." This just goes to show that he is excited to do the job for everyone, not just one race or one gender, but for every American.
So, we will see what the next four years bring. Will Obama really bring change? But I can say this, change has already happened.
