Everyone Deserves A Lifetime!

Whew! What a day! We got to the Opening Ceremonies a little before 7:00am, and it was still dark outside, cold and rainy! Luckily, we were prepared for such weather (thank goodness). The Opening Ceremonies was such an emotional and powerful event - I can only imagine what the Closing Ceremonies are going to be like. It made it all so real as to why we are walking and who we are walking for. We are walking for the man that lost his wife, the daughter that lost her mother, the woman that lost her friend. It was so emotional, and everyone was hugging and holding each other, and then eight women came up into this circle in the middle of the crowd. These women are either breast cancer survivors or are currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. These are the people that I am walking for. I was very lucky to have Mom and Karl there this morning to support us as we began our journey for sixty long miles (the first 20 in the rain)! It brought many tears to my face to know how proud they am of me for taking on this journey. And then as the music played through the loudspeakers, we took the first step and started the first mile.

We trekked through Alpharetta near North Point Mall, winded our way through Windward and then on through Duluth. It was cold and raining the entire time. The weather may have dampened our clothes, but it never dampened our spirits! Everyone on the walk was so excited to be a part of this movement, and the crew and volunteers all could not have been any more helpful and supportive the whole way! They weathered the elements right along with us. It is so amazing to be part of something so big and to have such an impact on our generation! I really can't put into words what it feels like.

By the end, our socks were starting to get wet, the bottoms of our feet were sore and we were just ready to be done for the day. Luckily, my knight in shining armor showed up to shuttle us back to the hotel where I had a nice hot meal and the best shower of my entire life. And Day 1 has officially come to a close. 20 miles down and 40 to go! We are sore and tired but super anxious for the next 20 miles! And the weather will be in our favor this time around!

We walk because we must.
We are strong because the journey demands it.
Together in body and united in spirit, we lay down our footsteps for this generation and the future.
This is our promise: a world without breast cancer!!

xoxo
