60 miles! We did it! And it's finally over!
We walked all the way down Peachtree Road - from Chamblee, through Brookhaven and Buckhead, and then down to the Georgia World Congress Center. Words cannot describe what we were feeling in the holding area before the Closing Ceremonies. There were hundreds of walkers and crew cheering everyone on as they finished this long three day journey. There was such a sense of community, of love, of accomplishment in that room. There were so many pink pom poms in the air waving everyone to the victory line. Strangers were hugging and crying on each others shoulders. Teammates were helping the wounded and the injured down the last home stretch. Truly a sight to behold. So much happiness! So much sadness! So many heroes all in one place at one time. It truly was spectacular!
It is so amazing to have been a part of such a movement. The Atlanta Breast Cancer 3Day raised $8.3 million towards breast cancer research. $8.3 MILLION DOLLARS!! That is such a huge number. We all came together for one cause - one purpose - and we will succeed! A world without breast cancer! I can't wait until next year! 2009 here we come!!
Thanks to everyone for their support over these past three days. Without your love and support, this definitely wouldn't have been possible.
It's back to the real world now!
